Suggesting the way of recording travel memory in Southbank.

Tourists can record texture of architectures with ‘LUB’ postcards easily when they visit Southbank.

BACKGROUND

Most of the tourists recorded their travel memories with a smartphone,

so they will have travel records that look similar.

DIRECTION

'Providing tourism contents that do not required using a smartphone in London'

Most of the tourists are depend on a sense of ‘Sight’ due to a smartphone.

This tourism content can provide different experience content using other senses.

Among the various senses, I thought that 'Touch' can give a unique experience to tourists in London.

Finding way of capturing memories using touch sense

Recorded travel memories without a Smartphone while traveling Italy and Barcelona

Rubbing texture in cities and it can be very unique memories

because cities had their own patterns and material of architecture. But it requires more improved some points.

Rubbing outputs are inconsistent, so it will have to be just for storage.

Need to find more useful usage as good souvenir content.

This activity depends on the user's intention,

so it required that giving motivation to people for recording texture.

Decided the 'Southbank' place because people could feel the various senses except for the 'touch'.

so when providing 'touch' sense to people, this place can provide a perfect place for experiencing five senses.

‘Paper’ is proper material for ‘rubbing texture’

Format

For making the consistent format of contents, so I combined with familiar tourism items and rubbing textures

PROTOTYPE

Made a various rough prototype and design samples which considered these requirements; utility and motivation.

Among these prototypes, made the postcard form more specific.

CONCEPT

‘LUB’ is a collection book of Southbank attractions postcards

LONDON + RUBBING TEXTURE = LUB

Tourists can rub the main architectures textures of Southbank through ‘LUB’, and the cards consist of five landmarks;

Royal festival hall, The national theatre, OXO tower, Tate modern and Glove theatre

'Lub’ is sold at the Royal festivals hall souvenir store.
Which is the starting point so it gives motivation to people about visiting other landmarks.

OUTPUT

Postcard consists of cover paper and inner paper.

Half of building image shows appearance and left image is used for expressing their texture.

Users can rub the texture with inner paper.
Each page has a perforated line so people can separate it and use for postcard.

VALUE

Tourists are able to record their travel memories in a different way, and also customized what they want.

And it can have a more positive possibility as 'SCALABILITY'.

[ Design for Disabled People ]

'Lub' idea can help to capture travel memories not only ordinary people but also a blind tourist.

They have used the hand for capturing a moment when they are travelling but it has to rely on memory,

so 'Lub' can be helped to them for recording their touch memory.
